General Info |
|
| |
The historical town of Barjac, where our guesthouse is situated, is on the border of Provence and the Cevennes, It is a very quiet village with magnificent views of the Cevennes. Barjac is located high on a hill top, in the department of the Gard Provençal and offers sweeping views of a green valley covered with vineyards and olive groves and the Cévennes mountains (nature reserve). The apartments are reached by an impressive staircase. During the summer the temperature in the apartments stays very comfortable because of the very thick walls of the house. On the ground floor there is a cosy communal area with information regarding sights to see and things to do in the area and also a library with guides and maps for hiking and locating rivers and beaches. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Ideally situated to explore the surroundings. A lot of possibilities for outdoor sports. The Mediterranean landscape is crossed by rivers, the famous "Gorges de l'Ardèche" are nearby, the historic cities of Avignon, Nîmes, Orange and Uzès lie a short distance away. For a daytrip, the Mediterranean coast itself is not far. Hiking, mountain biking, or horse riding in the valley and hills around Barjac or the more "sauvage" Cévennen and Ardèche mountains. Barjac itself has lots of restaurants and little bars with gardens and terraces, as well as supermarkets, butchers, bakers, internet cafes, cinema, exhibition hall and a well run tourist office. 10 minutes from Barjac is the Ceze river where you can swim, picnic and caneo. Just 25 minutes away is the Chassezac river with its beautiful gorges and several beaches. The famous Gorges of the Ardèche are just 11km from Barjac. |

Further Details |
Since 2000 I have lived in a little village on the border of the Cevennes National Park, not far from Barjac. Besides running Souffle de Vent, I also collect and sell Brocante (antiques and collectables), offer interior styling services and in between am busy renovating our family home a 19th century Magnanerie, a silk farm. I am an outdoor enthusiast and I know the area very well. I am happy to assist you during your stay and I can provide you with lots of good ideas for day trips, activities, local equipment hire options and even directions to the special secret spots the tourist office will never reveal.

19th Sept, Thank you for the stay in one beautiful, clean and comfortable apartment "Bise" and great helpful, friendly host Jan (also loved his 30 yrs old Peugeot van). Sam and Nick, Edinburgh.
Will recommend to friends and family to visit, esp when all the Proveçal fruits and legumes are in harvest in September, I will miss the smell of Barjacs figtrees.

What a lovely nine days - so much hot sun at first that we didn't mind the later rain. Thank you Jan for bringing us boules de petanque to play in the market square lik the Barjac folk. (...) A recommendation to other visitors is the Barjac-St Privat de Champs Clos walk, on excellent paths. Finally a big thumbs-up for the fabulous rooms - we loved the studio and Tramontane for their romance and elegant simplicity.
