What visitors have said about Le Nid d'Hirondelle

Such a great apartment, we had a lovely stay and feel totally chilled! We particularly loved the spacious private roof terrace where we ate every night under the stars and sun-lounged in the day...as for the apartment and gardens, they are exceptional!

From the moment I set eyes on our 'gite' adjoining a superb small hotel, I knew that we had found a gem. The staff were very friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble. The gite itself is very stylish and was spotlessly clean. The local supermarket is within walking distance as are a couple of very good restaurants, post office, bakery etc. I didn't want to drive and David pointed us in the direction of some great activities (which took a few minutes in a taxi) - from a tour of ancient caves and caverns to kayaking on a man-made lake. Of course, we spent a day in Carcassonne too. The children loved the swimming pool (complete with honesty bar too for Mum!). I would recommend this piece of heaven to anybody who is looking for peace and quiet and excellent hospitality, food and wine, in a small, unspoilt rural French village. All together a memorable and much enjoyed holiday.

This is a wonderful place for a relaxing stay. Three generations of our family stayed for ten days in the summer of 2009. The apartment is large, with airy rooms and a well equipped kitchen. You can dine outside and there are some loungers to soak up the sun. The real advantage is that the apertment is next to the classy, charming hotel, run by David. David has a laid back attitude to life and was so welcoming and helpful. He a chef with real style. He produced first-class meals ( optional - 3 nights per week) using fresh local produce. We spent our days lazing by the secluded walled pool, drinking chilled beers from the honesty fridge and wandering throught the grounds picking fresh figs and grapes. Our teenage boys loved Carcassonne and other castles and the market at Mirepoix. Excellent local wine and a concert at the local domaine. My main memory - the figs poached in armagnac with liquorice ice cream. Get your flight to Carcassonne and begin to chill.....

This apartment was perfect for 3 generations of our family everyone had there own large room and bathroom with bath and the front rooms have views from the terrace onto the wonderful gardens. We had a fantastic week in the pool and the garden picking and eating figs and grapes. The great advantage of this place is it's next to the stunning hotel where they can't do enough to help you such as booking taxi's and restaurants and answering any other questions. Also it was great to feed the kids in the apartment while we could leave themin bed and dine in the gorgeous manor house and eat David's stunning food. The apartment was well equipted with all the household appliances we needed including a BBQ. The village is beautiful especially down by the river and make sure you pop into Chateau de Rieux where the very welcoming winemaker Emanual will give you a wine tasting and tour. It's a great base to explore the area such as cruises on the canal du Midi, visiting markets in local villages and Carcassone. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

We spent the first 2 weeks of August, 2009 in the apartment which adjoins the hotel. I could not recommend it more highly. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. From the fantastic accomodation, privacy, beautiful pool, gardens, friendly staff, delicious food- it was second to none. We have already planned our return visit next year. Well done to the owners for creating this wonderful oasis.
