Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The local village of Sully has an imposing chateau and gardens which are well worth a visit and the nearby small town of Epinac caters for most everyday shopping and offers friendly cafe bars and a twice weekly market. Autun is a quintessentially French market town and boasts many fine restaurants and tourist attractions including Roman walls and a splendid amphitheatre. Although located in the department of Saone-et-Loire, the gite is not far from the vineyards of the Cote d'Or, with the wine centre of Beaune about 30 minutes drive to the east. The medieval city of Dijon, with its famous cathedral and Musee des Beaux Arts is about an hour's drive to the north. Chalon sur Saone sits graciously on the river about 45 minutes to the south. A little further is Macon with its famous bridge and also the monastic remains of Cluny. To the northwest, the Morvan National Park offers opportunities for long distance walking, pony trekking and boating on the Lac de Settons. |

We had a wonderful time here. Everthing we could possibly need was provided and best of all the open fireplace with plenty of wood to keep the cottage cosy... Made very welcome, given wonderful advice, a very workable kitchen and good amenities... Would willingly recommend it to anybody wanting to spend time in rural France.
