Walk or cycle through a peaceful landscape of varied countryside of hill and valley, chestnut and oak woods and small farms or spend lazy days beside the swimming-pool. Listen to bird song by day or star gaze at night, with no street lights to spoil the view! Laroche is much more than a gîte with a pool! It's a way of life that I'll be happy to share with you for a while. Free range eggs, organically-grown vegetables, and home produced jam and honey are all available to buy. The whole Gîte is available from the end of May until the end of September. The ground floor of the Gîte is available from Easter until the end of October. The whole Gîte will easily accommodate 8 people, but the downstairs is intimate and cosy enough for two. |

There are plenty of interesting visits to be made in the area. Nearby Brantôme has a beautiful riverside setting and many cafés and restaurants. Villars, the next village, has interesting caves, and a Renaissance château. Périgueux, the Préfecture of the Dordogne, is 30 minutes drive away and has a finely restored and lively old town and Vesuna, a superbly presented Roman site. There are tennis courts nearby and a swimming-pool in Champagnac de Belair. Enjoy lake swimming in the area and canoeing on the nearby river Dronne or further afield on the spectacular river Vézère. The cycling is wonderful in this area – perfect for both the keen and occasional cyclist. There a several nearby equestrian facilities. Nontron and Brantôme hold weekly markets and there is a village shop in Quinsac. Nearby are a boules piste, badminton net, table tennis table and of course, the animals -currently three donkeys, Henri the goat and hens. |

Getting There:
| If coming by car from the UK and on the ferry, the easiest drive is from St Malo, followed by Caen and then Le Havre. Cherbourg will be the longest drive. Alternatively, you could take the Eurostar and train to Angouleme via Lille or Paris, or you can take the train from the UK to Brive, which is about 100km from Laroche. If flying, Limoges and Bergerace are equidistant, both about 1hr 15 mins drive from the gite. |

The ground floor (which can be rented separately - 5 people maximum) has a large living / dining area with woodburning stove and a well equipped kitchen (including a washing machine). There are two bedrooms, one with a double and a single bed, and another with a double bed, as well as a shower room. The first floor (which is not let separately) has a large bedroom with one double and one single bed, a smaller twin bedroom and a shower room. High chair and cot are available on request at no extra cost. There are radiators on the ground floor for the cooler months. Prices include gas, electricity, water and bed linen.

About 50 metres up the slope from the house, the 10m.x 5m. pool is superbly placed with lovely views over fields and woods. (The pool is now fenced to comply with French law.) Relaxing on the terrace above the pool, shaded by vines or parasol, one feels in harmony with the beautiful landscape. Outside are table and chairs beneath an old vine, and a table tennis table. In the shade of trees are another table, plenty of chairs and a barbeque. In the fields and woods around there are orchids in spring and early summer, champignons in autumn. Wildlife is abundant:- deer, wild boar, badgers and a multitude of smaller mammals; swallow-tail butterflies, praying mantises and glow worms - over 80 bird species have been spotted around Laroche.

When our ancesters roamed over Europe 30,000years ago they had excellent reasons for choosing to settle in the Dordogne region. Today you can visit the caves and shelters where they lived. There, your imagination will give you some idea of what it was like to be alive at that time. Périgord Vert is more peaceful than the southern areas of the Dordogne. Visit these easily on a day out and return to relax at Laroche!

Conditions of Rental |
No changeover day. Minimum stay is 6 nights in July and August and 4 nights rest of the year. Lets are from 4pm on arrival day to 10am on departure day. The whole gite is priced for 6 people. Two extra children up to the age of 10 can be accommodated for 70 euros per person per week. A 20% discount applies for a couple renting the ground floor only. Non refundable deposit of 25% required on booking. Balance payable 8 weeks before start of the holiday.
