This gite is part of a typical french farmhouse situated in beautiful, unspoilt countryside, enjoying fantastic views of rolling hills, corn & sunflower fields & a slow pace of life. Perfect for a couple wanting to have a "get away from it all" holiday but equally suited for a relaxing family holiday in the countryside. |

General Info |

The gite, lying between the owners farmhouse & a beautiful old barn, has been recently renovated to provide a high standard of accommodation, yet retaining all the rustic charm that you would hope to find at your french holiday home. Inside, amazing oak roof timbers, beautiful stone fireplace, old oak floors, whilst outside there’s the large courtyard around which the numerous barns & pigeonnier sit, shaded by an old lime tree. Chez Devallon is an old french dairy farm - we are now running it as a (nearly) organic smallholding, striving at self-sufficiency. We have a small flock of sheep (come in the spring to see the lambs), chickens & we hope to have a few pigs next year. We cut & bale our own hay & straw & grow very small crops of corn & sunflowers for animal feed. We also have an orchard and rather too large veggie patch! Down the road we have a willow plantation. |

You will be ideally placed for access to all the beautiful sites in the Dorgogne and Charente. There are chateaux to visit, prehistoric caves to explore or pretty market towns to meander around. Not to be missed is market day in Riberac on Friday. The Perigord region is renowned for its quality food and wines. Bergerac is just over an hour’s drive away or you could take a day trip to St Emilion (1hr45mins) or Bordeaux (2hrs). Cognac is another interesting day out. For the more energetic there are plenty of outdoor activities. Try canoeing along the river from Brantome, the little Venice of the Dordogne, to Bordeilles with its fortified chateaux, or explore the quiet but well signed lanes by bike or on foot. Several river beaches are within easy reach where the children can play in the sand & swim or you could visit Lake Jemaye, well worth the 40 minute drive. |

Exterior Details |
The swimming pool is 10mx5m with roman steps. It is shared with our family but we aim to ensure that you get plenty of time alone in the pool and area if that is what you like. The pool garden has sun loungers, garden chairs & a dining table under the pergola as well as a BBQ. There are also places to relax in the courtyard - two hammocks shaded by the lime tree, & a table at the bottom of the gite stairs for your sole use. The open cart shed also has a large dining table for times when it's too hot to eat outside. There is ample parking space. There’s lots of space for the children to run, a play area, 14ft trampoline, table tennis.

What visitors have said about Chez Devallon |
| |

This has to be one of the best locations we have stayed in France, we needed the break and we certainly got that and a whole lot more. The guys who own this fab place are Wendy & Matt and little do they realise it but they are a real asset of the holiday.
September time is also a great time to go - treat yourself to the overnight ferry from Portsmouth - a great start to the holiday.
We also ride a Tandem, actually own a tandem supply biz in the UK and Wendy & Matt were delighted to see that we had a tandem as they had just got there own tandem!
Super time, super people - book now!
Cheers

A lovely, well equipped gite, beautiful away from it all location. This is our second visit and the kids are already asking when they can go back again! Wendy, Matt & the family once again made us feel extremely welcome, they aways went that extra mile to sort things out for us.

Our French Experience - Just got back from staying at Chez Devallon. What a stunning place to stay. The gite was as described and more. Very peaceful with spectacular views, only regret was that it wasn't later in the year when the fields of sunflowers would be in bloom. Wendy and Matt really friendly, hardworking couple with charming children. Would recommend for all, plenty to do in the area & plenty of places to eat closeby.
