The glamper can be found curled up on a mountain of sheepskin and cushions in a flame-filled white tent. Here, on a 15 acre site, surrounded by unspoilt hills and dales, you can do just that, in a bell tent or treat yourself to a luxury lodge tent....
Camping in the Great British outdoors - the romance of getting back to nature, breathtaking countryside, songs around the campfire, starlit walks, and jolly japes on endless sunny days! The reality however is often very different, soul destroying tinned or dehydrated meat, deflating airbeds, damp sleeping bags and permafrost on your toes - in summer! Well now theres an alternative... Here, we believe there's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate camping facilities. Out go nylon sleeping bags and in come four poster beds, chandeliers and sofas by the fire. Glamping, cool camping, posh camping - call it what you will, this is luxury camping in safari tents here in North Yorkshires wonderful countryside.
Go walking through unspoilt hills, and dales, explore the delights of quaint local towns, famous York City or discover our magnificent coastline. (Dont worry, weve got theme parks too!). We are close to the River Derwent, and near the "Minster Way" footpath. The National Cycle Network route 66 passes close by leading to York in the west and east over the Wolds to Hull. There are some lovely pubs in beautiful locations and serving good to fabulous food in the area. Ryedale was an inland sea bounded by the Wolds and North York Moors, now fertile farmland which gets hot in summer. Here you will find Flamingo Land for thrill seekers, and it is also home to several fantastic historic houses, Castle Howard, Hovingham Hall, Nunnington Hall, and Scampston Hall, a little further afield Newburgh Priory on the edge of the North York Moors.
We are wonderfully situated at the crux of The Howardian Hills and The Wolds, both areas of outstanding natural beauty, Ryedale, the vale of York, the coast and the North York Moors National Park are not very far as well. Apart from the A64 to Scarbrough, which can get busy on warm weekends, travel around the region is usually free and easy.

There are three types of tent on offer bell tents, luxury tents and lodge tents. Up to 4 people sleep on double futon sofa beds in a 5 metre diameter bell tent. It is carpeted with coir matting and has a wood burning stove inside to keep it snug. A cooking hut provides all cooking facilities and storage space. Between the hut and bell tent is a large canvas awning giving you a dry outside dining/lounging area. Bell tent guests use the communal shower and toilet huts. Each private luxury tent can accommodate up to 6 people. There is a four poster bed in one room, 2 single beds in another, all with canopies and a sofa bed for 2 people in the living area (near the stove!). The deluxe tents sleep six; french doors and windows allows more natural light inside and lets you observe wildlife without scaring it and there are a number of other luxury additions.
Our camp has no permanent structures, and other than the odd wooden pole (and the buried bio digester dealing with effluent off-grid) nothing is attached into the ground, ensuring we tread lightly. We have up to 20 tents at present: 4 deluxe tents, 9 luxury lodge tents and 7 bell tents. Book and turn up for a night, a few days, a week or longer, just bring suitable clothes and thats it! No other packing. No hassle and set up, just turn up. Join us for a drink by the fire pit and clay oven, snuggle down in the privacy of your own tent or check out the local bars! The tents are set into the woodland landscape over 15 acres of the 200 acre woodland. No tents are closer than 15metres to each other and many much further than that. Being in a quiet woodland you can expect to hear the murmur of voices and occasional laughter.
Cool camping or "Glamping" is a trend that's emerged largely from our unique British festival culture, culminating in 24 hour festivals such as the The Magic Lounge About. Its a million miles from the camping we once knew. Glampers love the freedom of getting back to nature, going off grid and being eco, but are unwilling to compromise on style and comfort. The glamper can be found curled up on a mountain of sheepskin and cushions in a flame-filled white tent. Its a state of mind not a state of wallet. Theyll be nibbling on local delicacies whilst the bottle of fizz is cooling in the neighbouring stream. Eat and drink in your private suite in the woods, with the facilities provided in your tent. Indulge and go for it with our "Jollydays Breakfast Baskets". Proper posh camping breakfasts to set you up for the day and keep you going till high tea or even supper. We occasionally, and increasingly, have guest cooks, who come and prepare an evening meal so you dont have to do a thing or leave the site. Within 1 mile is the fabulous farm shop and café The Balloon Tree selling their own and local produce and a lovely café open from breakfast.
Conditions of Rental
We dont mind when you arrive, however for a warm relaxed welcome it's best between 4 and 7pm (tents are generally ready from 4pm). Some of the tents are very much off the beaten track and so cars cannot get close to them, for this and because we want to keep car movement and noise to a minimum cars are parked in a central area. Weeks run from Friday to Friday or Monday to Monday. The price does not include, cancellation insurance, food e.g breakfast baskets, bike hire, laundry of personal clothes. There are certain times of year where we only do 3 night weekends such as July and August and certain times of year, generally the school holidays, were we can only accept 1 tent of adults only in a booking.
