General Info |
|
| |
The Dene, which sleeps 10, dates from the early 1800s, and is set in the mediaeval village of Alfriston, in the South Downs National Park. A short walk from The Dene is the Old Clergy House, which is the first property bought by the National Trust (in 1896 for £10!). The beautiful village church, known as "the Cathedral of the South Downs", reflects the history of Alfriston and the fact that it was a market town, granted a Royal Charter in 1406. The market cross is still in the village square. There are lovely walks from the front door, and The Dene is perfect for relaxing; read in the sunny conservatory, or relax in the private walled garden. |

One single bedroom has an additional single pull-out bed and the other is reached by a narrow, steep staircase. There are three bathrooms. You can eat in the beautiful open-plan kitchen/dining room and relax in either the sitting room or the sunny conservatory. If you need to work there is also a desk on the bright and airy landing. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped for entertaining, open to the dining room so friends can chat while preparing meals, and the house is great for families or adult groups wanting generous space for a dinner party. The dining room has a modern dining table with seating for 10 with 2 separate breakfast bar stools.

What visitors have said about The Dene |
| |
| |
The Dene was perfect for the family reunion! Everyone sat around the dining table for Saturday night dinner, and it was great for the cooks to be able to join in conversations. The kids could play safely in the lovely walled garden, and during the day everyone went in all directions, some walking, some shopping(!), the kids went to Drusillas and the house was ideal as a base in the village.
