General Info |
|
| |
The Cottage is in Shilling Street, a quiet 16th Century residential street just a 100 meters from the main square and where Jane Taylor lived and wrote the famous nursery rhyme “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. Lavenham was almost forgotten from the 1600's till recently and was featured in the Dimbleby's TV show as one of England's best preserved Medieval 'Wool' Villages and it is the Jewel in the crown of Suffolk's many pretty villages. The open log fire and the massive antique four poster bed makes this a romantic treat to remember for couples staying in historic Lavenham. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
One of the great joys Suffolk is the beautiful little hamlets that even locals get lost getting to though the meandering 'spiders web' of tiny lanes and byroads. Many of these villages are wonderfully preserved in their medieval origins, our local village of Lavenham being a fantastic example. The area is very rich in History from the Saxon treasure of Sutton Hoo and the rebel Queen Bodicea who defeated the Romans, right up to the many expeditions of Settlers leaving for America. The landscape and the architectural beauty of the area has long inspired artists to work and move here, the most famous of which are John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Alfred Munnings. There are endless opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding and other outdoor activities, and culture vultures will be in heaven with a long list of historical sites and museums to visit. Information about the highlights of the area is contained in a pack in the cottage. |
