Everything that you imagine a thatched cottage in a chocolate box village to be, Cobbs Cottage is bursting with old-style charm and character. Sitting amongst a small cluster of ancient estate cottages, the property overlooks the beautiful Box River valley in one of the prettiest parts of Suffolk. Lovingly restored yet retaining its 17th century appeal, the cottage is full of original features, from Persian style carpets and rugs to the fireplace in the living room and the furniture in the kitchen. With picturesque countryside all around and scenic walks and cycle rides in every direction, this is the perfect peaceful location for a rural retreat. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The cottage, accessible only by a rustic lane, sits just outside the medieval village of Stoke-by-Nayland which is where the Pilgrims Way crosses the valley and goes over the hill down to The River Stour. At the bottom of the hill upon which Cobbs Cottage perches is a pretty green lane with a wooden footbridge across the ford from where you can walk up to the picturesque hamlet of Polstead. This river valley is gorgeous and lovely footpaths meander along it, perfect for afternoon walks in characteristic English countryside. It is impossible to believe you are just 60 miles from London! Stoke-by-Nayland has some excellent gastro-pubs where you can while away a lazy Sunday or you can venture further out into Suffolk and soak up some of the county’s history, art and architecture. |

Interior Details |
You enter the cottage through a utility room which leads through into a pretty sitting room with an impressive inglenook fireplace. The beautifully beamed living room has a large comfortable sofa, easy chairs to relax into and a new 32 inch LCD TV. The farmhouse kitchen is the heart of the house, with a handmade oak dresser and a settle. The settle is in an L shape and curls round a large kitchen table which seats 6. Downstairs there is one bedroom, the characterful wood panelled ‘Captain’s Cabin’, which sleeps one and looks out over the large back garden and down into the Box River valley. There is also a downstairs bathroom with ‘Suffolk White’ bricks and under floor heating. The small winding staircase leading up from the kitchen takes you to the 2 other bedrooms - the master double and the twin. The cottage sleeps 5 comfortably and there is also space for a travel cot, should you require it.

Exterior Details |
A step down the corridor from the kitchen brings you to the back door which leads to the large, private garden. Behind the house the enclosed garden slopes down towards the valley, providing lovely views of the surrounding landscape as well as access to some of the local walks. Bikes are provided and the South Suffolk Cycle Route runs right past the cottage. Whatever the season, Cobbs Cottage is in a sublime spot to enjoy the Suffolk countryside.

Further Details |
The kitchen is well equipped with all the usual appliances of modern life, including a modern electric cooker and hob, a fridge, a microwave and a dishwasher. The utility room is also well-appointed with a fridge freezer, washing and drying machines, a cool larder, a butler sink, a toilet and plenty of space for hanging coats and storing boots. The thatch precludes the use of a log fire in the cottage but the living room houses a gas 'real flame' wood-burner which creates that warm, cosy atmosphere.

We loved every minute of our 4 day stay here. Cottage was great in every way: location perfect for our (+ dogs) needs; surrounding country perfect for visiting and exploring; pubs/restaurants good quality and varied - in short, a most enjoyable and relaxing few days.

Quite simply the nicest, most homely and well appointed cottage that we have ever stayed in for the price. The dogs loved it and we would highly recommend this cottage.

Magical! Cottage all set out for Christmas..tree decorated and fire being lit as we arrived. Christmas snow was a bonus and we felt we were in the middle of a scene from a Christmas movie. Cottage has it all - charm, comfort and so cosy you feel like you've lived there for years.
