General Info |
|
| |
We have one cottage with a large double bedroom and a second cottage with a double and single bedroom. This single bedroom can accommodate 2 full size single beds which are ideal for 2 children sharing the room but we normally present it as one single bed. Both cottages make the ideal base for a self catering holiday in the Quantock hills. They have a light and airy feel with locally made beech kitchens and cupboards. The Quantock based cottages are converted stabling from the charming 17th century Higher house. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The Quantock hills were the first area in England to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956 and it's not hard to see why this was the case. As you explore the 35 square miles that make up the Quantock hills, you'll be struck by the raw beauty of this charming landscape. The Quantocks are a popular destination for walkers, riders, naturalists, mountain bikers and anyone who loves the outdoors. Home to wild herds of red deer, the Quantocks will really enable you to get close to nature. At the bottom of the lane which runs past our Quantock cottages, is Cedar Falls (less than one mile away) - a popular health farm and natural therapy centre, set amidst stunning countryside. For the more adventurous you can explore the Quantock hills by foot, bike, car or horse. Or go on a culinary journey in one of the many local fine restaurants and pubs. |

Exterior Details |
The cottages are approached down 8 garden steps which lead into their own courtyard containing the swimming pool , which in the summer, is a veritable sun trap. The pool is shared by the two cottages. For the more active, the self catering cottages also have access to the onsite tennis court and each cottage has tennis balls and rackets. The gardens at Higher House are on several different levels. In front of the main house is the owner's private garden, which you are welcome to pass through in order to admire the views. Above this, through the five-bar gate at the end of the car-park, is an orchard garden which is entirely at the disposal of the cottage guests. You can have tea and look out towards Exmoor.
