Berkeley is the former west wing to Walcot Hall, although it is now self-contained with its own private entrance. It is set within 30 acres of garden and arboretum and benefits from wonderful views over the gardens, lake and rolling hillside beyond. Life on this country estate (once the home of Lord Clive of India) is still enjoyed at a slower pace amongst wonderful Georgian architecture and in an area of outstanding natural beauty. |

Berkeley is a delightful three bedroom property, with tall ceilings, elaborate plasterwork, a marble fireplace and rich furnishings. Large sash windows offer tremendous views from the living room, kept cosy by a wood burning stove for chilly evenings, in addition to the central heating. Two bathrooms offer the choice of either roll top bath or wet-room shower and the kitchen features a rayburn cooker, in addition to all modern kitchen conveniences. The sleeping arrangements comprise of one double and one twin bedded room, a family size room with two single beds, that would comfortably accommodate 2 additional children's beds and a double sofa bed within the living room.

Within the Walcot Hall estate is a mile long fishing lake and two fishing pools, which allow visitors to buy day tickets and try their hand at this peaceful country sport. For the more energetic, there is horse riding at the Walcot Stables, cycling or walking. A 26 acre arboretum within the rear gardens provides plenty of interest for explorers of all ages, including a Russian style house, a South American teepee and a Mongolian yurt, not to mention the wide variety of specimen trees.

Ten other properties are available within the estate, sleeping up to 65 guests, should you be considering a large family celebration. An 18th century Ballroom is perfectly situated in the gardens and can be hired for weddings and special events or sometimes stages opera, plays or musical events during the summer months.

Berkeley is available for hire throughout the year for a week, weekend or mid-week breaks. A £50 deposit must be paid on confirmation of booking, with the full balance required one month before intended stay. Well behaved dogs are allowed and children are very welcome.

My family and I stayed in Berkeley for a weekend in November and it was wonderful. Very warm, thoroughly relaxing, great views without having to step outside, beautiful scenery and so much space to explore, a weekend was just not enough.
