  St John’s Cottage is a beautifully furnished 300 year old detached character stone cottage under collyweston slate roof. The cottage itself occupies a charming central position by the church within the village of Ryhall, and offers base to relax and unwind in its lovely secluded grounds. Ryhall is a quaint village with two pubs serving real ale and good homemade food. It also has a village shop with post office as well as a fine butchers - all a short stroll away.

  Rutland is situated in unspoilt rolling country side ideal for outdoor pursuits. Ryhall marks the start of many stunning country walks, with visitors having easy access to a variety of outdoor activities and events including horse riding, rock climbing, cycling, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, golf and bird watching. Rutland water, Western Europe’s largest man-made lake, plays host to many of these (just 20 minutes away). Ryhall is also well placed for the lovely old town of Stamford (just 2 miles away) renowned for its historical religious and architectural heritage. There are other delightful market towns to visit such as Oakham, Uppingham and Oundle, as well as many fascinating unspoilt villages. Stamford is an affluent Georgian market town filled with up market boutiques, inns and numerous restaurants . The area is surrounded with beautiful architecture and is known for its many historic churches and estate homes - Burghley house being very close to St John’s Retreat.

  Getting There: Ryhall is situated six miles of the main A1 road running through the heart of England. Ryhall is just over one hour’s drive from London (2 hours from central London). Stamford has its own train station with trains to London every hour. Stamford train station is two miles from the cottage. Birmingham international Airport is only one hour by car and is direct by train from Stamford.

  Interior Details St John's Cottage sleeps up to ten people with off street parking available for everyone staying. Master bedroom with double bed, fitted wardrobes and painted floorboards. Good size bedroom with one double bed and one single bed, wardrobe, vanity unit, painted floorboards. Single bedroom with single bed and solid oak flooring. Sitting room with large sofa and winged back chair, large inglenook fireplace with open log fire and original bread oven. Solid oak flooring, original beamed ceiling and window seats. Second sitting room with double sofa bed, feature beamed ceiling, solid oak floor and window seats. Large shaker style country kitchen with hand built units, Belfast sink and solid wood surface. Double range cooker integrated fridge/freezer/dishwasher. Solid pine table that seats 10 people. Bathroom with large Victorian style bath / panelling and power shower. Directly outside kitchen is a toilet with sink and washing machine.

  Exterior Details There is a private mature English country garden full of apple trees and hollyhocks stretching approximately 60 meters in length and enclosed by a sandstone wall. The garden also has an ancient water pump with fresh drinking water. There are many seating areas within the garden allowing for all day sunshine weather permitting! There is a fabulous York stone patio area great for alfresco dining complete with barbecue area and lighting. There is a lock up facility ideal for bikes.  
 
  Further Details Rutland, England’s smallest county situated in the East Midlands, is rural, unspoiled and charming. The area is renowned for its beautiful Georgian stone-built market towns and villages. In fact, nearby Stamford was proclaimed by Sir Walter Scott as “The finest stone town in England”. Within walking distance of St John’s Cottage is Tolethorpe, the unique open-air theatre with its annual 13-week summer season of Shakespeare plays. Burghley House, a glorious Elizabethan mansion, plays host to the famous Burghley Horse trials held in September. Highly recommended for junior guests is Sacrewell Farm Park (3 miles). Hidden deep in the heart of the countryside and spread over 35 acres, this former 18th Century mill has a host of friendly farm animals to pet and feed, a Shire Horse Centre, working watermill and fun tractor rides, plus toddler-friendly indoor and outdoor play areas. For parents, Michelin Pub of the Year (2008), The Olive Branch, is in nearby Clipsham (advanced booking recommended) and excellent for a posh lunch en famille or a special evening out with the help of babysitter. Don't miss the homemade lemonade and barbecues in the summer!

On confirmation of booking a 40% deposit is required within 5 working days. The balance is required 8 weeks prior to arrival. 10%of the deposit is non-refundable. This is a non smoking property and pets are allowed at the owner’s discretion. Number in party should be clarified on confirmation of booking. There is a lovely one bedroom cottage /bungalow available within the same grounds by separate negotiation and is ideal for larger parties or couples wishing to have privacy.
