From Dover’s white cliffs to the magnificent Canterbury cathedral and the new Turner Gallery, there’s so much to see and do in Kent. Shop on cobbled streets in Rye, experience safari adventures at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, taste wines at Biddenden Vineyards, admire brightly-coloured orchards and beautiful countryside driving through picture postcard villages or visit impressive Bodiam and Leeds Castle. Hythe has a lovely high street with plenty of antique, small shops and restaurants. Folkestone’s Creative Quarter is a hive of arty activity with galleries galore. Folkestone Leas nature park overlooks the ocean and perfectly complements dinner at the Grand Hotel. Dungeness Nature Reserve is fascinating with fishermen’s huts and the largest expanse of shingle in Europe - a haven for wildlife spotters. Dymchurch Railway is a 15" gauge main-line in miniature, with operating steam and diesel hauled trains. France is only an hour away on the Eurotunnel. |

What visitors have said about Beach Sun Retreat |

How do I start to do justice to this amazing, feature-packed property? It is the entire ground floor of what used to be an historic landmark hotel in a quiet and exclusive area just a few minutes walk along the seafront from Dymchurch. (The upper floor is unoccupied and closed off awaiting refurbishment).
The garden is large and sunny with direct access to the seafront and quiet, sandy beaches. We particularly liked the luxury swing bed next to the pond.
The property is lavishly decorated to a very high standard, with dramatic and sumptuously dressed bedrooms, bathrooms and hallways, a light and airy kitchen and a huge living area packed with imaginative features and wonderful lighting effects that make it a really restful or fun place to be depending on how you use it! We loved the original hotel bar in the corner, DJ equipment, swing seat, indoor waterfall and the separate cinema room for tv and films.
The intriguing 'Real Sunlight' is absolutely brilliant! We really enjoyed basking in the warm light and found we could totally relax in the security of sunbathing indoors without having to keep an eye out for stray dogs and frisbees! As a family with an assortment of aches, pains, stresses and sleep problems I can honestly say we all felt much better and we thought it was a fantastic idea to put this in a holiday home.
Dymchurch itself is a traditional English seaside village, attracting mainly young families who tend to cluster around the beaches closest to the amenities about 5-10 minutes away. There is a small but adequate supermarket, and pubs, fish and chip shops and other takeaways, small cafes and restaurants all within about ten minutes walk into the village. Others are located a short drive away in nearby towns.
The seafront has undergone some changes recently. There is a newly rebuilt and rather elegant Sea Wall along the bay, sheltering Dymchurch from the tides. This has the effect of a two-tiered promenade. The top tier (to which the property has direct access) has outstanding views both out to sea one way and also the other way out over the beautiful surrounding countryside, the lower promenade nestles beneath it beside the wall and from that about 15 wide steps run the length of the beach down onto the firm sand (there are ramps at places). The tide goes out for about a quarter of a mile and it is a great place for photographers and walkers as well as sunbathers.
Would we go back? We didn't want to leave. We have stayed in many UK holiday rentals over the last 30 years and increasingly have been seeking out something different and this one certainly provides that. Our teenagers really enjoyed the many facilities in the house and were fully appreciative of the wi-fi enabling them to carry on with their social networking. I'd especially recommend it to small groups of family and friends (when the upstairs is refurbished it is going to be ideal for larger groups) or even couples seeking to treat themselves to a romantic and secluded getaway!
In all, an amazing holiday home in a lovely location and a very helpful owner who was keen to make the stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

This property is like a cross between the playboy mansion and a french chateau-by far the best and most luxurious house we have ever stayed in!! The beach is lovely and the sun room is such a fantastic experience which saved the two days of our week when it was raining outside. We will definitely come back again during the winter to top up our vitamin D levels and help us feel invigorated!
