General Info |
|
| |
This all began in 2004 after a summer of adventuring with a tipi and three small children. We were too big for a small tent and the tipi was a radical idea to replace it. We had the most wonderful summer but we had no idea it would eventually lead us to where we are now. 6 years later after a stack of new adventures and still looking for something new, we built our first dome, a snow dome, a proper igloo built on a hill with a gang of mates and mini helpers. The igloo was a delight and big enough to hold ten people! 6 months down the line the snow has melted and up from the floor of the Forest of Dean has appeared The Dome Garden – and when its complete it’ll be big enough to hold 60 people. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The one thing The Forest Of Dean has is tracks. Tracks, tracks and more tracks and then tracks that cross back over those tracks. You can do long ones short ones, square ones or circular ones. We can organise a guide, or even a llama who can carry your bags!
Just beyond our boundary is a designated mountain-biking area, which includes a red grade forest single track with a rather frantic downhill. Then, thankfully, just beyond it, a 20 km surfaced track specifically for family biking and walking! There’s a brilliant bike hire place at the bottom of the hill. Once a day one of our staff will lead a guided bike tour, tailored to the needs of everyone from toddlers to teens or even togs. We also like canoeing. Parts of the Wye get up to a very enthusiastic class 3 and within 5 or 6 miles we have some of the safest, most picturesque water in the country. |

Getting There:
| The Dome Garden lies on the exciting and aptly named Edge End Rd just outside the village of Mile End, 19 miles West of Gloucester and 15 miles North of the Old Severn Bridge River Crossing.
It’s in a small clearing right inside the ancient Royal Forest of Dean which in turn sits between two of Britain’s most famous rivers. To the west the picturesque River Wye, renowned for its canoeing and fishing - and the famous Symonds Yat view point. To the East the River Severn, famed for its tidal bore and, well, its tidal bore. Oh and it’s the longest river in Britain. It’s just 40 miles North of Cardiff, 60 miles from Oxford and 70 from Birmingham which should take about an hour and 20 mins. From West London it’s 120 miles and around 2 hours thanks to the newly upgraded A417 between Swindon and Gloucester. |

Interior Details |
The domes at the Dome Garden are self-contained units up to 24ft in diameter with everything you need for the coolest glamping extravaganza. They will comfortably take a family of four, or five,
or six if you squeeze. Each dome produces light and airy spaces that, thanks to insulated covers and their own wood burning stoves, are guaranteed to keep you snug as the proverbial bug. The Dome Simple is a 20ft dome with ensuite shower. The Dormitory Dome is a 20ft dome with four extra hanging beds, and the Double Dome is a 20ft dome with a spare bedroom dome. All the domes have their own en-suite shower or a bath. Water is heated by cool little wood burning stoves and then stored in oak butts on the roof. They also have their own flushing loo. Solid floors, fine linen, comfy beds and your own camp kitchen with a coolbox.

Exterior Details |
There's a cosy covered forest kitchen beside each dome, complete with a little gas ring and everything from pots and pans to last lickers and garlic squishers - all the paraphanelia for making your own top notch nosh. The Dome Garden is a chance to go back and slow down. To recreate the wonder of youth. Why? Because... it’s how we keep in touch with our youth, how we find our way back to where we came from. It’s also how we help our children learn where they are going and how to get there. That’s what The Dome Garden is all about. Bring a gang of friends or family, go canoeing or cycling or llama trekking. Make camps, take it easy and enjoy the passing of a little time with no phones or TVs or emails to distract you. And then you might remember why the summers were so long when we were young.

Further Details |
The Edge Bar is on site. Yes, our very own little residents-only saloon so you don’t have to stagger across any main roads in search of a little nightcap. Better still, twice a week we stoke up the pizza oven to give you a break from the cooking. We have a little ‘Shoppee’ which overflows with Things We Love – little gems ranging from the exotically practical (Gransfors hand forged axes, really clever little firelighters, and brilliant egg cups, banger forks etc ) - to desperately dull essentials – bangers, batteries, bread, beans, bacon, books, blah di blah … We can organise you a stash of food so you don’t have to play ‘hunt the teabag’ when you arrive. And of course, anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable and convenient – chargers, adapters extra beds, cots, child seats, sterilisers, and miscellaneous baby thingeys. We have disabled facilities - but for this year, only in one dome. Wide doorways, flat access - and we do mean flat! – disabled loo and a wheel-in shower. Plus all the help we can possibly give you. Sadly, rubbish phone reception and the recent digital switchover has put paid to mass communication throughout much of the Forest of Dean. On top of that the granite walls of the main buildings has done for the wifi.

Conditions of Rental |
We looked carefully at lots of other comparable places when building our prices and, unlike them, we decided to include as much as possible in the original price. So, yes... the dome comes with all this... lovely, private en suite facilities for the period of your stay, firewood for the fires and stoves and hot water (fair use), all your bed linen - we'll even make the beds up for free! (wow), online fees, telephone booking fees, late arrival fees, visitors fees, high chairs, cots, sterilisers, baby listeners, phone chargers etc. oh - and even eggs from the chickens! Sorry – no dogs. 50% deposit required to confirm booking.
