Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The Undercliff is a ‘minimum intervention’ nature reserve which means that it is teeming with wildlife. A huge variety of birds nest here – from owls and woodpeckers to tits, chaffinches and robins, to name but a few. You may also see deer, pheasants, badgers and rabbits, as well as hares, newts, butterflies and other insects. During August, you may even see dolphins in Lyme Bay or grey seals in Charton Bay. From the Studio you can walk to Lyme Regis on the coastal path in about an hour and a half or the pretty village of Axmouth in the other direction. Alternatively, Lyme Regis is 15 minutes in the car, River Cottage is 10 minutes’ drive and all the local Devon/ Dorset countryside is a stone’s throw away. |

Interior Details |
The Studio is extremely well-equipped and is ideal for a couple or a single person looking to escape from it all. The bedroom has a king-size bed (bed linen provided) and the living area contains a table and chairs as well as a reclining sofa. Furnished with a TV, DVD player, CD player and iPod dock, this is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of exploring! The kitchen area has all the mod cons, from a fridge, cooker and sink to utensils, cutlery and tea towels, and the shower room contains a walk-in shower, a hand basin and towels. The owners are very eco-conscious - the Studio uses solar power (backed up by a generator) and the water supply is delicious local spring water. Free, unlimited WiFi is available to all guests.

Exterior Details |

Further Details |
There are numerous wrecks along the Dorset/Devon coastline and one is so close to shore in Charton Bay that it can be seen at low tide. At exceptionally low tides the wreck can be accessed from the beach. In 1896 an Italian wooden barque on its way from Borga to Seville was caught in a force 9 gale and was eventually broken in two by the force of the waves. She foundered on a rock midway between Culverhole Point and the centre of Charton Bay. Captain Bertolotto and his crew of 16 all safely reached the shore in their own boats and the cargo – cut soft wood – littered the coastline for miles to the west and east.

What a wonderful find this Studio is, set in a wonderful secluded position. The beach is lovely: walks from the studio, either way good. Or further afield great coastal walks. The peace and stillness of the place make it a special stay. Will be spreading the word to our friends; what a great place to come to.

Many thanks for sharing such a great location and what a beach! We have been to Rousdon many times but never seen it from this perspective. Great walks and plenty of quiet rest, what a good recipe for a holiday.

What a place! A unique location and a lovely Studio…..and the beach and the woods…and the silence (with just the distant sounds of the sea.) I wanted to be on my own to read, to write and to think. It’s been a superb 4/5 days and I am sorry to be leaving but I hope to be back before long. Thank you so much.

Thank you, what a truly amazing place! A little piece of heaven – the birdsong in the morning, owls at midnight and so many stars! We looked right up into the Milky Way. Looking forward to a return visit in the Spring
