General Info |

Inside the The Quarry is bright, stylish & comfortable - the result of a huge 4 year restoration programme by the owners - an artist & an interior designer. It was built in 1890 as a holiday home for an Admiral, and retains many impressive period features. Sleeping up to 13 people in 7 bedrooms it's a perfect place for a family gathering or a friends get together. Nestling in the hillside, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the rooms & terraces afford amazing views. Ilfracombe itself is a pretty harbour town with some great cafes & restaurants - including Damien Hirst's no 11 The Quay. The highly regarded Saunton Sands golf course is a 20 min drive. If you wish to cook yourself, there is a fantastically well equipped kitchen with AGA, Miele extra sized oven & hob, larder, American fridge/freezer. The owners can also supply details of a great local caterer who can prepare delicious meals for you to bung in the AGA, or come to the house & serve a grand dinner (& clear up!) |

All the rooms are spacious & sunny. Floors have been stripped & polished & original works of art adorn the walls. In the first floor bathroom an original claw foot bath sits proudly by the fireplace. Much of the sanitary ware was bought from antique shops, apart from the wonderful drench showers - one with a 12 inch rose. The original detached vine room, complete with bountiful grape vines & nectarine tree, also offers a warm quiet spot to relax in a deckchair.

Exterior Details |
The sloping gardens, 1/2 acre in total, offer many secluded spots to enjoy the views. The 'secret' garden is laid to lawn & surrounded by shrubs. It's a good place to hide away with a book. Off the vine room is a BBQ terrace with an outside table to seat 14, and great views. The kitchen terrace has a washing line, fish pond & bench to enjoy the afternoon sun. The magnificent sea view front terrace (off the sitting room / dining room) has a table to seat 6, a small lawn & a handmade wendy house. This area is completely enclosed by fences and is perfect for even very young children. The back garden is steeply sloping with various terraces & many trees. Its great for older kids to play. There is a back driveway, which takes you onto the South West coastal path. This beautiful & dramatic walkway winds round the cliffs to Lee, Morthoe, Woolcombe & beyond. The house is reached via a steep driveway. There is parking, and turning space, for 3 cars.

I write for each & everyone of our gang!! Your house offers everything that we could hope for. It has a home away from home feeling. We had lots of hot water, lots of in & outdoor space. The kitchen did it for us all, well equipped & we made very good use of it. The walks were great (so they told me). Thank you so much & we would love to visit again

A beautiful, stylish house in a lovely, old fashioned seaside town. House was perfect - comfortable beds, lots of hot water & a great garden for adventure. Did all the recommended things plus cycling on the Tarka Trail from Bideford & the Lynton/Lynmouth train thing. But still have so much more to try & no time..... Would love to return.

We've had a fantastic week in your fabulous home. Spent every day on Woolacombe Beach bar one, and that day we did the walk to Lee with lunch at The Grampus. Highly recommended - and we did it in the pouring rain!

This is the MOST amazing house. Such space, you would never have known there were 13 of us for the week. The light & views are amazing. We went surfing most days, thanks for the use of the wetsuits & body boards. We all enjoyed the nectarines from the vine room, and made the most of all your fresh herbs in the divine kitchen! Really hope we can come again some day.
