  Built in 1860, The Old Vicarage, Ilfracombe, sits in its own grounds of 2/3rds of an acre overlooking Ilfracombe harbour. Originally this was St James' Vicarage and was the childhood home to Jonathan Edwards, the Olympic Champion and World Record holder. It's position gives it simply stunning views out over the Bristol Channel and towards the cliffs of Hillsborough which jut out into the sea and are known locally as 'the elephant'. It has been sympathetically restored to retain its Victorian grandeur with all the modern conveniences you'd expect to make it a fabulous location for family holidays, weekend breaks or adult getaways. Many original features have been restored including the rare 'rising' shutter in the lounge and the dumb waiter in the dining room. The large basement bathroom, was originally the meat larder and retains the original ceiling hooks, ideal for hanging wet suits out to dry or something to ponder on whilst taking a relaxing bath!

  Ilfracombe is surrounded by natural beauty with Exmoor national park only 20 minutes by car and fishing, sailing, kyaking and rowing activities right on your doorstep from the harbour. The fabulous surfing beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe are only 15 minute away by car and the South West Coastal Path runs right in front of the house.There are several extremely good golf courses around Ilfracombe including Saunton Sands which is only 15 minutes away by car. The Lundy ferry departs from the Quay every day in Summer months. The amazing dunes at Braunton Burrows are only 15 minutes away.

  Getting There: From the M5 take turn off at J27, A361 to Tiverton and Barnstaple. Follow the A361 to Barnstaple then follow the signs to Ilfracombe via Braunton. Go through Ilfracombe along the High Street towards Combe Martin. You will come to a set of traffic lights at the junction of New Barnstaple Road. The Old Vicarage is now on your left. You will need to turn SHARP LEFT almost doubling back on your self just before Larkstone Terrace begins so be prepared to swing out to make the turn! FOR SAT NAV USERS most devices will take you to Portland Place off Hillsborough Road when you use the post code EX34 9NW. So when you reach Hillsborough Road on your guidance head for the junction with New Barnstaple Road on your screen map.

  Interior Details There are 6 double bedrooms (two ensuite) and 1 twin bedded room plus a further 3 family bathrooms and a downstairs toilet. There is also a double sofa bed and day bed/trundle in the media room sleeping a further 4 people. All the main rooms are seaward facing with terrific views. The Lounge is set for comfort and conversation with three large sofas and a log burner. The Dining room seats up to 18, ideal for special celebrations. There is a Den with 2 large sofas and a TV (and amazing views of Hillsborough!)The kitchen includes an Aga, an American style fridge with ice dispenser, fitted eye level oven and microwave, gas on glass hob and a dining table which seats 8. It opens out on to the patio where there is a large gas barbecue and eating area and access on to the main garden. A utility room includes a butler sink, washing machine, dryer and drying rack as well as additional storage. The large Media room is equiped with a wall mounted 50" TV and Blue Ray.  
  Exterior Facilities BBQ / Garden / Parking / Terrace  
  Exterior Details The Old Vicarage is completely self contained with a park on one side and cliff gardens in front. There are no properties adjoining. Drive through it's gated entrance and you are immediately in your own world. There is parking for at least 5 cars, more if you need it. The garden has a main 'top area' with places to take in the view and areas for play or just sitting and enjoying where you are. There is the barbecue patio next to the kitchen which has folding doors for access. The patio also has a gate in the wall for walking in to the town. The South West coastal path runs below the house. The top of Hillsborough is only a 30 minute walk away. The harbour with it's famous Quay is only 5 minutes walk down from the main gate.  
  Further Details To make the house as family and adult friendly as possible it has been split into 'activity' and 'comfort' zones. The former includes Kitchen, Utility, Media Room etc and has practical tiled or laminate flooring. The 'Comfort' zone is fully carpeted and comrises the rest of the house.  
  Conditions of
You can reserve the dates you want by sending us an email or by contacting us by phone. Your reservation will be confirmed on receipt of your booking form (see details on owners web site) together with a cheque for 30% of the total cost. Payment can also be made by bank transfer (please ask for details when making your reservation). The balance is payable no later than 8 weeks prior to your arrival. We will send you written confirmation and plenty of usefull information about the house once your initial booking payment is received.
