  General Info
Relax as the countryside unfolds around you without the bother of motoring through crowded waterways. Sit quietly on deck and observe the birds navigate from wetland to open water, then take flight, or maybe not. It could be you share a bottle of wine on the foredeck, while in the background you hear the excited cries as another fish is landed for the BBQ. Someone prepares your private picnic area for supper while in the galley local farm produce is washed and passed ashore. The smell of burning wood fills the air and you know for sure that this is special. One of the great joys of staying at Blagdon Water is the feeling that you are doing something different from the crowd, something that is fun and to be remembered. If like most people you are unfamiliar with boats you will be surprised at how effortlessly you settle into life onboard a static houseboat.

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
Blagdon Water is located in the heart of the North Devon countryside, or as it is known locally, Ruby Country. Ruby Country is ‘the land between the moors’ bordered to the east by Exmoor, the south by Dartmoor and to the west by Bodmin Moor. To the north lies the Atlantic coast in all its splendour and places of interest. North west Devon is considered to be one of the most unspoilt rural environments in England. Blagdon Water is an excellent base from which to enjoy the local walking and cycling routes, many of which are off-road.   Further Details Blagdon Water comprises 35 acres of rural countryside, set in the heart of the Westcountry. The environmental site is dedicated to providing a natural habitat in which the local wildlife is free to flourish without having to compete with the needs of modern agriculture. Fifteen acres are set aside for the newly planted woodland of oak, ash, alder and rowan. This young woodland site, which remains undisturbed for most of the year, provides a natural habitat for field mice, voles and rabbits. These small animals can damage the young trees but their numbers are controlled by kestrels, barn owls and buzzards. It is a wonderful sight to watch a predatory bird hover silently, high overhead, as it prepares to swoop on its unsuspecting prey. The remaining 20 acres is dedicated to open parkland of grass, gorse and rushes. Here the wild flowers, of the type associated with Culm Grassland, flourish in early summer. Butterflies abound in this rich natural environment. The lower parkland is bordered by a brook which meanders at the foot of mature oaks. The 3 acre lake and surrounding wetland form the centrepiece of this environmental site. The lake is well stocked and the wetland provides a superb habitat for a diverse selection of wildlife. For those who like fishing there is great satisfaction to be had from landing a fighting fish while those who enjoy good food will savour the taste of organic rainbow trout.

What an idyllic rural retreat – we’ve had a wonderful few days soaking up the peace and quiet…This is a gem in the Devon countryside.
Ray & Jan,  UK,  May 2009

We all had a wonderful week – peace, tranquillity, no TV – absolute heaven. Making the log fire took me back to my childhood – it was lovely.
Ann, Peter, Janet & Alan,  UK,  Jul 2009

Fourth time here and still a great holiday. You’ve done it again with this boat, really great spot……and we’ve seen the kingfisher!
Victoria & Peter,  Teignmouth,  Aug 2009

I love the idea of looking out of the windows and watching the chicks and swans. Bill Oddie has a lot to answer for!! It felt like our very own Springwatch.
Sue and Richard,  Bristol,  Oct 2009
