Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
Parwich is a charming traditional limestone village, 7 miles north of Ashbourne, in the Peak National Park. The village has its own pub and little shop (and tennis courts) and is set in a beautiful area with wonderful walks right from the door. Orchard Farm is one of the older buildings in the village, perfectly situated between the village and open countryside. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Tissington Hall (famous for its well dressings) are within a half hour drive, as is Dovedale, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Buxton (Opera House) and numerous pretty villages. Carsington Water - about five miles away is excellent for water sports and fishing; numerous other activities are available locally. The area excels in good food with many farmers’ markets, farm shops and specialist butchers etc.; also many pubs and restaurants priding themselves on excellent food and good beers.

  Getting there & away/local amenities
Getting There: Right in the centre of the country we are conveniently accessible from all directions. There is a very limited bus service into Ashbourne; the nearest train stations are Derby and Chesterfield, both 20 miles away. A car is almost essential, although once here you may not need it at all, or much.
Nearest airports: East Midlands Approx 25 miles
Nearest train station: Mainline: Derby and Chesterfiled Approx 20 miles

Interior Details Tom’s Barn and Douglas’s Barn are charmingly different but share a uniquely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Both are equipped with everything you could possibly want and more - what our guests call ‘little extras’. Each (only ever) sleeps two but can dine four. Tom’s Barn accepts dogs. It is more ‘farmhousey’ with a mixture of antique and modern: the sitting room is airy but cosy with its log burner, high ceilings up to the rafters and huge gable window. It has an en suite, galleried bedroom and an unusual two-seater whirlpool bath up two steps. Douglas’s Barn - with all its delightfully quirky shapes and angles - is more contemporary, with the emphasis on peacefulness and convenience. The spacious bedroom has a longer-wider ‘king size’ bed and in the ensuite bathroom there is a power shower over the whirlpool bath.

Exterior Details We are next to open countryside. Each barn has its own private garden area. We live next door; we never intrude, but are there when guests arrive, and if and when needed.

Further Details A big plus for all our guests is that our two holiday cottages are owner-run. We, John and Marion, live next door. We own and cherish Tom’s and Douglas’s Barns and our guests and are on the spot if you need us but very discreet otherwise. We are there to welcome you, to answer any questions and iron out any problems if they should happen to occur. We’re there when you need us but promise we don’t intrude! Our aim is to make our luxury self-catering accommodation in the Peak District the most perfect relaxing romantic cottages for two: the sort of holiday accommodation we would love to stay in ourselves (we keep looking…!). Luckily for us, our two converted barns are very popular and in great demand – but we don’t ever want to rest on our laurels. We are constantly trying to think what else we can do to keep everything as special as possible; we are aware that standards progress and expectations increase and a bit like over-indulgent parents are always trying to think what next we can spoil our cottage guests with. Orchard Farm is no longer a working farm. We are in a Conservation Area, in Parwich, in the Derbyshire Peak District National Park. As well as our 5 Stars we also have a Silver GTBS (Green Tourism in Business Scheme) grading.

What visitors have said about Tom`s Barn and Douglas`s Barn

A holiday cottage which lived up to its Five Stars. Beautifully renovated to a very high standard. Very warm and comfortable. Very well equipped with lots of important little extras e.g. coffee, tea, flour, fresh cakes, butter, bread etc. We really didn’t need for anything. We will definitely come back and will recommend the cottage to friends. A very peaceful and relaxing week… The village shop and pub are excellent too. Such a friendly place.

Thanks John and Marion for the lovely welcome with added extras. Tom's Barn was more than we expected and was as near home as we could get - as your website says so rightly,"Just bring clothes, supplies and yourselves" and we had a wonderful, relaxing week. We would certainly come again. Once again, thanks.

We have never been so delighted to be trapped anywhere. The snow fell thickly after we arrived and continued for several days. The spirit of the blitz prevailed and we had a marvellous time 'holed up’ and meeting some for the residents of this lovely village. Our landlords were superb! The cottage fantastic and as luck would have it the next guests were unable to brave the conditions and we were able to stay on a few days longer. We have already booked a return visit!! Thank you so much to our more than generous hosts!’

“A truly wonderful place! Your hospitality is impeccable! Thank you for all your kindness. Couldn’t wish for a better place to be snowed in!”
A and G,  Douglas's Barn

We visited this part of the world earlier on in the year - towards the end of the summer so we didn’t know what to expect in December… We have loved it! The snow has looked like a winter wonderland but the best part has been Tom’s Barn. I do admit to being hard to please when it comes to any accommodation we have stayed at – Tom’s Barn is better than 5 Stars! Perfect, perfect, perfect! It has been so cosy, comfortable, relaxing, clean, welcoming – everything and more than I had expected. I wish we could stay longer – thank you for helping us to relax. A truly wonderful place to stay, can’t wait to book another visit.
M and A,  Tom's Barn

Following a perfect weekend here a year ago we returned to this lovely cottage but this time with 3-month old Gabrielle. Weren’t expecting 2 feet of snow; unbelievable scenery and some fantastic snowball fights! Thanks so much, John and Marion
R and K,  Douglas's Barn

A superbly appointed cottage, set in idyllic surroundings. We enjoyed miles of terrific walks, mostly from the doorstep. Thank you to John and Marion, our generous hosts, who must have put so much thought and effort into this wonderful cottage
I and J,  Tom's Barn

More than worth the 5 star award – Douglas’s Barn is the perfect place for a relaxing, luxury holiday. My wife and I have never enjoyed better accommodation in this country and would recommend anyone to visit.
M and C,  Douglas's Barn

A wonderful honeymoon! The barn was so warm and inviting, filled with everything we might need. We did two big – for us – walks and towards the end of each the idea of coming back to the log fire, warm barn and bubbly bath spurred us on. The weather was so kind to us – cold, crisp and sunny. Thank you, Janet, for the warm welcome. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thank you

We have had a fantastic week! This is by far the best place we have ever stayed in the UK
