The enjoyment of waking up in a bed, surrounded by wood and canvas with light streaming though the roof window has a very unique feel. The structure is sturdy enough to cope with the worst the British weather has to offer, the raised wooden floor and wood burner take the chill off what could be a cool evening and make it something really special. Cumbria and the Lake District National Park needs no introduction. Most will be no stranger to the fact that with Scafell Pike, Wast Water and Windermere, the area boasts the highest mountain and the deepest and longest lakes. The four yurts are situated in a mature oak woodland in the National Trust campsite at Low Wray. |

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area - whilst the Lake District is famed for its activity holidays there are plenty of accessible walks giving fantastic views. Whilst it gets very busy throughout the peak season there is enough of it to go round. With a little local knowledge and an equal measure of effort you can find what you’re looking for… Be inspired by the playground of Alfred Wainwright, Dave Birkett, Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth amongst others. Visit some of the quirky market towns that are as different as they are numerous. With Hawkshead and Ambleside only 4 miles away and nestled on the shores of lake Windermere; from the campsite at Low Wray you are never that far away from a fantastic activity whatever the weather. |

We have made the yurts so that you can stand up in all parts. We have included large windows that are both for gazing out of but can also be ‘opened’ a little to allow some air to flow through. The yurts are made in 3 layers, an outer canvas, a mid layer of insulation and an inner lining layer of soft cotton. Inside the yurts you will find a wood burning stove (with wood), raised wooden floors and tasteful rugs, a fully equipped and functional kitchen, all kitchen utensils, two very comfortable bed settee / futon beds with freshly laundered linen (including cotton sheets, feather pillows and winter duvets), table and chairs, electric lighting and a large central skylight. Each yurt sleeps 4-6 people comfortably.

Probably the most popular lake around is Windermere and our yurts are on the northwest shore – you can see the lake from the yurts. The campsite has excellent facilities and it has access to the lake. The Yurts are set in a beautiful oak woodland. You are less than a one minute walk from the bay and you can launch boats and dinghys there. For those that want to it also somewhere you can fish.

With the portability of a Yurt the Mongolians created an empire and in which the nomadic people of central Asia still live. Interestingly in Ulaan Bataar, the capital of Mongolia, the city has Yurts throughout the city – it truly has stood the test of time. A structure that uses ancient maths: Pythagoras and Pi. It has many variants and is very flexible in its application. It offers amazing protection from the elements coupled with a unique ambience. Their uses range from class rooms to houses, workshops to sumptuous bedrooms. Yurts can be joined together to create en-suites, second bedrooms, extra living rooms. We are moving away from the ‘nomadic’ aspect of the structure but many people choose these as their homes because they just work. Being made of natural materials it has a very comforting feel whilst being robust it creates a feeling of great security and when fitted with a woodburning stove and all the trimmings, transcends camping! You can gaze through the crown into the heavens.. star gaze and let the atmosphere of the evening filter in without the cold. There are so many varieties of yurt; ranging from the ultra modern with steel rope and timber straight from the lathe to traditional – with coppiced wood steam bent, still in the round and so retaining all it natural strength. There are many traditional shapes, the most commonly used is a design from Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan – ours included.

We had a great time staying in the yurt in the Lakes, so much so that we decided to get engaged! The yurt exceeded our expectations – all the creature comforts of home and such an amazing setting. We’d love to come back to celebrate our anniversary!

We wanted to take our baby son on his first camping trip, and with him being only 4 months we thought a yurt would be perfect. We weren’t mistaken, he loved it and we had a great time. The yurt is spacious, comfortable and lovely and cosy in the evening with the wood burner going. It has all the equipment you need and it’s certainly an enjoyable new experience staying in a yurt. There is also plenty of space between you and the next campers, giving you a bit of privacy. The campsite is beautiful, right on the shore of the lake, and the shower block is nearby. It is situated between nearby Hawkshead and Ambleside and Wray Castle is a stone’s throw away and is a lovely place to go for a walk and take a picnic. We really enjoyed our stay, it’s a real home from home, and thoroughly recommend the yurt experience!

From the moment we arrived to find some fresh wild flowers and a bottle of wine left out for us by Alex and Don, the yurt felt really welcoming and instantly became a home from home for the week. Very spacious when the beds are put back (the kids decided it was like the Tardis, bigger on the inside than the outside!), and with the hardwood floors and comfortable sofa-beds you almost forgot you were camping. The whole family had a really enjoyable week, beautiful countryside to visit and a great home to come back to, we made full use of the log fire, barbeque, kitchen, and the fact that it’s a great base for visiting the rest of the lake district, I can’t recommend ‘glamping’ enough. We’ll definitely be back!
