General Info |
|
| |
The six cottages are in the grounds of the 12th century Abbey at Lanercost. Howard House is the largest and the grandest of all the properties. It is absolutely perfect for family holidays, reunions, or as the ideal place to share a holiday with friends. This is a peaceful and tranquil part of England. Within 1/2 mile of Hadrian's Wall (UNESCO and world heritage site) it is also within easy reach of Carlisle, Newcastle and the Scottish borders. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Lanercost is in a quiet river valley with wooded hills. Five minutes' drive away is the pretty cobbled market town of Brampton which famously hosted Bonnie Prince Charlie whilst his army besieged Carlisle. The parish church boasts a fabulous pre-Raphaelite stained glass window. The town has a selection of antique shops, galleries, stores and good local food shops. Even closer at hand is the Lanercost Farm Shop and its adjacent restaurant/tea room. Carlisle, lying 12 miles to the east of Lanercost, is alive with history. You will find good shopping and excellent seasonal continental markets. Events and activities for all the family are ongoing throughout the year. There is a fine cathedral and the recently refurbished Tullie House museum is definitely worth a visit. To enjoy the great outdoors, there are lovely walks around Hadrian's Wall, and you have easy access to Northumberland, the Solway coast and into the North Pennines. |

Interior Details |
All the cottages retain original features which have been thoughtfully conserved. Howard House, for example, has a Persian carpet, a rosewood coffee table and a lovely Indian redwood dining table. The whole place feels very elegant, yet also homely. There are solid oak floors in the living room, tiles in kitchen and carpets in the bedrooms. The living room has sumptuous leather sofas and lovely finishing touches.

There's something about the ancient being fused with the new, stylish and contemporary that is Lanercost's main draw!

|
A contemporary Cumbrian cottage that has it all. I can’t wait to return...but for longer next time...

Very comfortable and stylish. Obviously a lot of thought has gone into the design and furnishings.
