  Built in 1794 as the mill owner's house it is furnished in comfortable country style, with oak beams and open hearths throughout. It is equipped to a very high standard with full gas central heating and fitted carpets. Fawcett Mill is available with 3 double bedrooms, 4 twin bedrooms (1 with an additional double bunkbed) and a double futon and double settee bed in the lounge (+cots). Fawcett Mill is an idyllic gathering place for a large family or group of friends. It is perfect for reunions, get togethers, Christmas/New Year/Easter celebrations, or a relaxing break away from it all. Summer or winter the environment and scenery is stunning.

  The location midway between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales, equidistant from Kendal, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen is ideal for hill walking, cycling and riding. You have easy access to the Howgill mountains and fells. The Coast to Coast Walk passes through our local village of Orton where "The George" is a popular stopping off point, being mid-way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks. The village also has a chocolate factory and tearoom. The network of small country lanes and villages is popular with cyclists. Village amenities are nearby including a popular local pub, a village store and post office. The picturesque town of Kendal, on the edge of the Lake District National Park, is the largest in South Lakeland. As the birthplace of Catherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII, the town has historical connections and many fine buildings.

  Interior Details Fawcett Mill is comfortably furnished throughout in country style with oak beams and open hearths. Fully equipped to a high standard it has full gas central heating and fitted carpets in all bedrooms. The property features 2 kitchens, one with a Rayburn cooker, an upper floor lounge with a double futon sofa bed and a double bed settee, a combined dining/living room with a Victorian range, a bathroom and a shower room and there is a ground floor lounge with a log fire box. Two of the bedrooms contain four poster beds. The ground floor lounge has TV, video, radio and log fire; shower room, kitchen, sauna. The front door through the porch leads onto the terraces overlooking the stream.

  Exterior Details Overlooking the quiet, unspoilt Howgill Mountains Fawcett Mill is situated only 2 miles from the M6 motorway and is hidden in its own tranquil valley, with a stream running from an adjacent waterfall through 7 acres of meadowland. Outside, as well as barbecue areas, there are extensive terraces and patios bordering the stream and a waterfall.  
 
  Further Details Outstanding local lamb, beef and sausages are available from our adjacent property farmers at Raisgill Hall, Steve & Barbara Dunning 0n 01539624418. There is a chocolate factory in the centre of our local village of Orton, Kennedys Fine Chocolates, which makes and sells superb chocolates from their premises. The Post Ofice in Orton also is a shop, newsagent and off licence. The off motorway services at jct 38 of the M6 also has a shop selling an extensive range of groceries, whilst the Shap Services 'North & Southbound sides, which are privately owned by local farming interests, have shops selling a large range of local produce. The Greyhound pub in Shap has a restaurant serving excellent local food.  
 
  Conditions of
Rental
If making a booking at least eight weeks prior to your proposed arrival date, then subject to your requested dates being available, we ask for a 20% deposit payable by cheque, with the balance being payable 8 weeks prior to the rental. At the same time as the balance, we ask for a £150 security deposit against breakages or late departures which is returnable within 10 days of the end of the rental. If your booking is being made within eight weeks prior to your proposed arrival date then the full amount of the rental is due at time of booking.
