Lantau Cottage is a former 17th Century ship merchants' cottage with wonky floors, a winding staircase that incorporates an original full size ship's mast, and an Elizabethan panelled bedroom. Allegedly once the home of a famous pirate, it has many period features, but is also immaculately presented. A truly unique holiday house!

Lantau Cottage is set out over three floors and can accommodate 8-9 guests in five bedrooms (3 doubles, 1 twin & 1 single). The house has a high four star rating from Visit Britain as well as a Gold Award for quality and cleanliness. Every part of the house has stunning original features from the 17th Century, from Elizabethan panelled walls and original fireplaces to Oriel windows and antique furniture. The unusual reading room leading from the master bedroom is a particularly unique and enchanting feature, and the house is steeped in history and character. The location of the cottage is idyllic, hidden in a narrow street but just moments from the beach.

This coastal location in South-East Cornwall is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is a perfect escape from the urban hustle & bustle. Looe itself is divided by the river and the old town has a maze of alleyways and back streets to explore as well as the banjo pier and sandy beach. Looe has all sorts of galleries and shops and there are numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes too. The harbour is the perfect place to watch the world go by and Looe is a thriving fishing town. Further afield, explore the picturesque village of Polperro whose tiny harbour was once a hub for brandy and tobacco smuggling. Or take a walk along the coastal path and enjoy the spectacular Cornish scenery. Looe is a great base from which to explore Cornwall and nearby you will find the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Restormel Castle.

Interior Details
The centrepiece of the house is the beautiful open plan living room and the whole house has charm and character with original exposed beams and quarry tiled floors. The dining area with its large farmhouse kitchen table, old church pew and chairs provides seating for 10 people. The lounge has comfortable chairs and sofas as well as a colour television, DVD player and TV with Freeview. On the first floor there are three bedrooms, one single and two double, all with original 17th century features. The second floor has a twin bedroom which is perfect for children, a spacious master bedroom and a delightful reading room which is accessible from the master bedroom. Perfect for getting away from it all! The family bathroom is on the first floor and has a walk-in power shower, mirror, heated towel rail, wash basin and WC. The en-suite bathroom has a walk-in power shower, wash basin and WC.

Exterior Detailss
The cottage is located in a tucked away position within the harbour-side streets of the old town. It is set in the heart of East Looe and is just yards from the sandy beach, the historic harbour, and a good selection of cafes and restaurants and little shops. East Looe is a sprawl of fascinating narrow streets with many medieval buildings. The town is still a working fishing harbour, Cornwall's second busiest, landing some of the freshest fish in the Country, and the port attracts artists and writers who are drawn to the quaint little streets and hidden coves.

The kitchen is well equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, oven, grill, microwave, toaster and kettle. The cottage also has laundry facilities including a washing machine, drying rack, iron and ironing board. The single room with its Oriel window, ornament niche with stone reveals and wood lintel is a wonderfully cosy room with exposed beams, built in wardrobe and original early 17th century panelled walls. Adjacent to this, the first of the two doubles also features a rare Oriel window and has beautiful hand crafted furniture that is very much in keeping with the period. Opposite, the second double bedroom has an original Elizabethan panelled wall and an original fireplace. A further climb brings you to a twin room located on the second floor with rustic pine furniture that is perfect for children and adults alike. Beyond this is the spacious master bedroom with a stunning gabled beamed ceiling. This room has a 5ft antique pine double bed, antique stripped pine bedside units, matching double wardrobe, and an easy chair. An unusual reading room is accessible from the master bedroom and you have to climb 3 steps in the wall and then 3 steps down the other side of the hole to this character room which has a gabled ceiling, reading lamp, double aspect window and settee. A real get away from it all room. The house has high quality furnishings throughout, bed linen is the highest quality Egyptian cotton and towels are heavy Turkish cotton. The mattresses are extremely comfortable too. There is a selection of books, games and CDs available for your enjoyment as well as WiFi broadband internet access.

Conditions of Rental
The property is normally let on a weekly basis, Saturday to Saturday, but outside of the peak season and School holidays we are happy to accommodate short breaks and long weekends. Let us know what dates you have in mind and we'll see if we can fit you in. A high chair, travel cot and baby bath are available upon request. Prices include utilities, local taxes and the use of bed linen. Weekly rates include the use of domestic towels. For short breaks we ask guests to bring their towels - this helps our green credentials! Each house has an allocated parking space in the nearby beach-side car park. For additional parking, Looe has two public car parks.
