Set in a 15,000 square kilometre mountain forest reserve and surrounded by its own 20 acre wildflower meadow, Tara is a spacious log house which is just made for enjoying a family group getaway and the magnificent natural beauty of the Czech Republic.
Tara is a historic house which has been carefully and lovingly renovated by its owners to create a real home-from-home atmosphere in an area which truly is outstandingly lovely. With 410 square metres of living space, and room for easily 10 people to sleep, the house is perfect for large groups of families and friends and the layout is such that it is impossible to feel crowded. Instead this is a place for people to come and enjoy each others company because there is nothing else getting in the way. What a lovely, novel feeling it is! The holiday cabin is made almost entirely of wood and rests on 4 massive arched stone cellars, and all the restoration has been done with a traditional approach, thus retaining the original magic and style of this enchanting home.
Tara is situated in the middle of the famous Beskydy Mountain Nature Reserve in the North East corner of the Czech Republic, close to the massive Sance reservoir lake and within view of the Slovak and Polish borders. This is an area which is visually beautiful, has a rich history and which boasts many wonderful places to visit. Or you could just experience nature in its grandeur right on your doorstep! The house is in the middle of its own sprawling wildflower meadow and all around this is a lush forest. From the veranda you can see straight across the valley for about 12 miles and you wont see a single house, light, telegraph pole, road or any other sign of civilisation. As part of a tiny community of farmers, you are not completely cut off, but the setting is wonderfully remote.
Brno Airport (Ryan Air) is about 2 hours away from the holiday cabin and Ostrava Airport (Czech Airlines) about 45 minutes. We can provide a taxi service with a reliable driver who knows the area well and who will not charge the usual tourist rates. Guests can be driven straight to the house or, if you prefer, you can be driven to the car hire pick-up point and you can then follow the taxi driver into the nature reserve. Car hire for a medium-sized saloon is around £19 per day.

The house has 6 bedrooms, 2 of which are enormous, so there is room to sleep up to 10 adults and children in impressive style and comfort. There is one triple room, 2 doubles and 2 singles, and some of the bedrooms and the 2 bathrooms (both with under floor heating) are situated on the ground floor, making the house accessible for elderly or less able guests. The main room downstairs has a lovely old-fashioned farmers oven which incorporates a bread oven which has stairs up to the top of it where you can cosy down on the sheepskins. This main room also has a big dining table which easily seats 10 plus another big table seating 7. The kitchen, which is extremely well equipped, has a cosy den at the end of it with benches and another table. Downstairs you will also find a lounge with television, satellite channels and a DVD player and a washroom with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Just outside the house in the orchard is a wood shingle roofed barn, built especially for barbecues with stunning views over the valley. The night skies are spectacular from here. Surrounding the house is a 20 acre wildflower meadow which acts as an enormous private garden, fenced in by deep, green mountain forests. Tara also has a wonderful long balcony which can be completely opened up in summer to enjoy the views over the nature reserve to the Slovakian border.
Tara has been furnished with every necessity to make it feel like a proper home, from adaptor plugs and a baby bottle steriliser to a DVD library and an iPod dock. In the living room you will find CDs, books, games and WiFi, as well as toys, binoculars and a selection of local information. In the kitchen, alongside the usual amenities, there is equipment for baking cakes and stewing casseroles as well as a supply of water from our own mountain spring. Together with the necessities are the extra luxuries, like the under floor heating, the toboggans available for your use, and the availability of a variety of local produce, from our own honey and Plum Brandy to the goat cheese and milk from the shepherd and the eggs and vegetables grown by our neighbour. We can also offer extra services like a hot meal on arrival, a shopping service and a taxi service with a reliable driver for non-tourist rates.
