Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
Riad Karmela is located right in the heart of the ancient Medina, only 2 minutes walk from the entrance of the Souks (market) and also 2 minutes from the Museum of Marrakech and the Medersa Ben Youssef. The famous and magical Place Djemma el Fnaa is 8 minutes walk. Just these attractions alone will easily fill a few days of your time – there is endless shopping in the souks, and lots of restaurants and cafes where you can while away the hours with a mint tea, watching the world go by. If you are keen to explore further afield and get out of the city, we will happily help to arrange guides, drivers etc.
  Getting there & away/local amenities

We recommend that you book a driver (in advance) to pick you up – this will not only ensure that you don’t have to negotiate a taxi on your arrival, but that you will be taken straight to the door of the Riad. The Medina can be difficult to negotiate your way around if you are new to the city. Airport transfer costs from 15 euros (up to three people).

What visitors have said about Riad Karmela
We loved arriving at the riad, via the hustle and bustle of the souks, through the tiny cobbled streets and down the covered alleyway which led to a fairytale door. Once through the door Riad Karmela felt like a peaceful oasis right in the heart of the busy medina. The room, public areas and meals were excellent and we loved sitting beside a real fire after our evening meal. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. We had a lovely few days there.

We wondered what we coming to after our taxi ride from the airport. Taxi dropped us at a square and our luggage was loaded into a handcart and pushed through the busy alleyways. We were led to a half-door (reminded me of a scene from Harry Potter!) and then we were led into this beautiful calm setting. Joel and his staff were fantastic - there when you needed them. Joel greets all his guests with welcoming mint tea and gives out sage advice and recommendations on arriva. Food was very good. Setting is excellent - very close to the Souks. Also ate in the Fondouk restaurant which was great. Would also recommend the Terrasse des Epices for lunch - worth seeking out.

This place is simply the best place I've ever had the pleasure of staying at (and I've stayed at some pretty good hotels and riads too). If you're staying in Marrakech, I whole heartedly recommend staying here. Karmela has beautiful rooms and decor, great, attentive service level, excellent facilities including food, massages, rooms superbs and impeccable cleanliness. A good, central location in the medina too, not to mention the wonderfully polite and friendly staff. There is a lovely calming but vibrant atmosphere around the riad and it's courtyard. I will most definitely be re-booking on our next trip to Marrakech.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Marrakech. Our room in Riad Karmela was extremely comfortable and tastefully furnished with traditional Morrocan artifacts. The shared areas in the house were lovely and and restful and in the evening we sat by an open fire. The food was excellent and we ate in 6 nights during the week because we enjoyed it so much. Our host Joel, and all the staff made us feel very welcome and every one went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our stay.We hope to come back again.
