General Info |
|
| |
Ngong House is a unique boutique hotel nestled in private land within the Karen/Langata suburb of Nairobi. The lodge overlooks the Ngong Hills, only a few minutes away from what used to be Karen Blixen’s coffee farm, and is surrounded by spectacular scenery and fascinating places to visit. The lodge accommodates up to 24 people in 6 tree houses, a private cottage facing the swimming pool, a log cabin which is perfect for families and a suite in the main house which suits elderly or disabled guests. This is not your average holiday in a treehouse - these luxurious tree houses have been designed with extreme comfort in mind. The furnishings are wooden throughout, from the bedframes to the walkways, and the effect is beautifully natural, yet the houses are stunningly lavish, from the vibrant carpets to the sumptuously draped beds and the robes in the bathrooms. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
This is a fantastic setting for a stay in a treehouse, and the lodge is perfectly located for guests to explore all the wonders that this part of the world has to offer. For a start, we are very close to the Nairobi National Park which is a place you must experience while you are here. You could also walk or drive to the Giraffe Centre, sanctuary to the endangered Rothschild giraffe, where you can enjoy feeding them in natural, peaceful surroundings. Just a short drive away is the Karen Blixen Museum where you can step back into the time of ‘Out of Africa’ and also the Elephant and Rhino Orphanage, set up by the world famous Daphine Sheldrick. The National Museum and Snake Park is nearby and is well worth a visit, or shopping excursions can be arranged to various locations if that’s what you’d prefer. |

Exterior Details |
Some the tree houses are raised 15 feet from the ground to gain an uninterrupted view of the Ngong Hills over a stretch of untouched bush land. Breakfast and lunch are served in the garden under a canopy of acacia trees and dinner is served in a half open, majestic, thatched rondavel with a grand fireplace, or in another secluded area of the lodge. Guests are always seated in separate areas unless they choose otherwise, as there are a variety of seating options for meals, including a spacious lounge and a dining area for 10 people in the main house. Every night casual pre dinner drinks and "bitings" are served around the camp fire - a chance to meet other guests and to chat with your host. At the main house there is a veranda with a bar, comfortable seating and a backgammon table. There is also 10 acres of garden surrounding the property and a lovely swimming pool for cooling off in.

Further Details |
Your host Paul Verleysen, a Belgian, moved to Africa in 1970. He has worked in Congo, Rwanda, Ivory Coast and finally Kenya where he opted to leave the diplomatic service, then bought a hunter’s home and transformed it into Ngong House. The House won Best Safari Hotel in the 2009 Good Safari Guide, an outstanding achievement in this industry. Dining at Ngong House is a delight. From fresh succulent Molo lamb to lake fish to seafood from the Indian Ocean, our meals are prepared and served accompanied by large varieties of fresh local vegetables. Our Kenyan chefs have been specially trained by several visiting chefs from Belgium. On site is also a superb clothing boutique, owned and run by Penny Winter, Paul’s wife. Using a variety of fabrics and getting inspiration from a diversity of periods and cultures, these outfits have graced the shoulders of many a celebrity and can be created bespoke for Ngong House’s guests. From sumptuous accommodation to mouthwatering cuisine, this treehouse holiday has it all.

What visitors have said about Ngong House |
| |
| |
We returned to this divine spot here in Ngong House. This time we brought our son and just like his sister, the surroundings make him speechless, much like his parents. We want to let you know what an amazing place and formula you have going here. It comes close to capturing the essence of what life is all about, the essence of what is really important....
This place conveys a feeling of a long lost "coming home" sensation and everthing feels as it should be, at last....
If one doesn't find "it" here, one will never find it everywhere.
In essence, we simply want to let you know that we treasured every second of our stay.
